Omaha, NE – Thursday’s Oprah focused on “getting happy”. She even sent her hairdresser to “laughter yoga” for an attitude adjustment. Can yoga really make a difference in your outlook on life?
You may be wondering how a strange pose in a very hot room can make you happy, and you might be surprised. “Just getting people to sort of work out some of the physical tension the body pain can help free up some the mind pain” says Theresa Murphy with “One Tree Yoga”. She says getting rid of that stress in your body and mind makes you lighter and happier.
Another way to boost your spirits at the yoga studio is to take your shoes off even before you walk in the door. It’s kind of a way to separate yourself from the outside world. So with shoes off we listen in on a private session with a former athlete.
“My body has been worn down with knee injuries ankle injuries back problems the whole bit that you typically get from football,” says yoga student Seth Liddy. He had to quit sports after his injuries got so bad, a hard pill to swallow after competing for so long. But after just three months of yoga, Liddy says he’s changed for the better. “I no longer need to be the biggest, strongest, fastest guy out there on the field all I need to do is just take care of myself and be happy with myself.”
With less physical pain, Liddy says he is happy, regardless of what his friends have to say about it. “I get teased quite a bit but on the same hand I’ve changed it around I’m happy and my co-workers see that in me and my friends see that in me.”
